Union Pacific’s LEAD Organization Opens up a New Chapter at Insight

July 26, 2010 - Auburn Hills, MI – Union Pacific’s LEAD organization, which is short for Lead, Educate, Achieve, Develop: A Women's Initiative, is expanding their reach from their headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, to the Motor City. Union Pacific has two branches working side by side in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Insight Network Logistics (INL) manages Chrysler’s network of finished vehicles and ShipCarsNow provides auto transport for used car dealers, auto auctions, finance companies, and fleet operators. They are teaming together to give LEAD a one two punch in the automaker’s hometown.

The majority of INL and SHIPCARSNOW employees have expressed an interest in the organization, including men. “29 of our 48 employees and contractors have signed up” stated Linda Sudduth, INL’s General Director of Finance and Business Planning “we are pleased that we had such a high level of interest and are hoping to capitalize on this momentum.” With a large number of men wanting to participate, LEAD updated their mission statement to include all employees. The mission statement now reads:

“Foster an environment that increases opportunities for employees to be recruited, retained and advanced as leaders in their professional and personal lives. Make a difference through professional programming, personal development, mentoring and community involvement.”

What’s next? LEAD’s focus will be on community outreach and professional development, including such activities as a charity golf outing, Habitat for Humanity Business Builds Hope event, Work/Life Balance Roundtable and a guest speaker series. The strategic goal for INL & ShipCarsNow is to channel this energy to support the local community and build team morale. For everyone that has survived the latest economic downturn, there were many others that were not so fortunate. The resource and willingness to help is there, now LEAD has provided the means to take that next step. That is a real world win/win.
